Nigerian singer Olamide is in danger of spending a year in jail and a N3m fine for allegedly promoting tobacco smoking on his new Wo video.

The federal ministry of health, via its twitter account, notified the public that the rapper had violated the 2015 tobacco act and that the video had “dangerous public health content”.

The ministry of Health claimed that the video which features ghetto scenes in which youths are seen smoking encourages second-hand smoking.

“The content & video contains scenes that violate the ban on Tobacco Advertising, Promotion & Sponsorship provision of the act #ClearTheAir", it said.

According to the 2015 Tobacco Control Act, anyone who violates the law faces the risk of a fine and jail term of not more than one year.

A person that produces or publishes advertising, promotion or sponsorship content shall attract a fine of not less than N3,000,000 and a term of imprisonment of not more than one year.
