Nigeria - The Country Manager of OLX, an online trading platform, Mrs. Lola Masha has said the future of eCommerce in Nigeria is bright, owing to its acceptance by Nigerians who see it as a safe and convenient way to shop and trade online.
Speaking with ThisDay, she said "The eCommerce space and market have had significant growth in recent times, based on the number of people that hit the eCommerce sites on a daily basis. In the last three to five years, the eCommerce market was not there and few people had interest in shopping online but today the story is different as more people are becoming interesting in the shopping online and transacting online from the comfort of their homes and offices."
"What that tells us is that customers are demanding and the existing platforms for online business in the country are thriving. But the reality is that we have only scratched the surface of what eCommerce is all about. We expect more usage as cost of internet access continues to drop."
Speaking on its aquisition of Tradestable, one of its closest competitors, Masha said: "We are very excited about our acquisition of Tradestable, our closest competitor because it has helped us acquire the customers of Tradestable to expand our business portfolio. We warmly welcome all Tradestable customers to the OLX platform and we will continue to improve on our services to serve them better.
"We have over 120,000 items that are listed on the OLX website and these items have a certain number of period they could remain on the site, in order to accommodate more uploads. The number of postings on the website is on the increase on a daily basis. There are many benefits for going online and OLX platform provides the opportunity for buyers and sellers meet to transact business free of charge. So in general, online classified, especially that of OLX has created significant value for Nigeria."
