Ime Obi Onitsha, the Kingdom’s traditional council, has stated that contrary to recent news reports and publications, the Obi of Onitsha, His Majesty, Nnaemeka Achebe, did not give approval to the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), His Excellency Senator Chris Ngige, to flag off the party’s gubernatorial campaign in Onitsha on the 2013 annual Ofala festival, Tuesday, October 8, 2013. The Council refuted the claims and assertions to that effect made by Senator Ngige and his aide Hon Uche Okonkwo-Okom as false.
A statement by the traditional Council observed that “the Traditional Council and the Monarchy of Onitsha, as a policy, always studiously steer clear of any involvement in partisan politics.
