Speaking after he was paraded alongside other armed robbery suspects by the Oyo State Police Commissioner, Mr. Abiodun Odude, at the Eleyele Police Headquarters in Ibadan, Mojumba, said:

“When we stormed our victim’s residence and abducted her, we collected her husband’s phone number, took his bicycle with which we took the wife away and we kept her with us for four days.

“The following day after the abduction, we went back to the house to drop our phone numbers for easy negotiation of the ransom.”

Mojumba (21), who spoke through an interpreter, confessed that he took part in the crime because of the promise of a motorcycle by his partner- in-crime, adding that he and three others stormed the house and robbed the family.

“My colleagues promised to give me a motorcy-cle after the ransom must have been paid.

But, now all of them ran away.” While addressing journalists, Dude said: “On June 7 at about 01.00hrs, the suspect and others now at large, conspired together and kidnapped a 22-year-old female victim from her residence at Eelworm village, Iguana to a thick forest in I were-Ile where she was held hostage for three days and sexually abused before she was rescued from her abductors.

“While abducting the victim, the hoodlums also stole her husband’s motorcycle with which she was taken away. The suspect was later arrested with the assistance of the villagers while trying to negotiate ransom with the victim’s family members.”

The police commissioner, however, said the command was still on the trail of the other fleeing suspects and that they would soon be brought to justice.
