The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Ondo State Chapter, on Tuesday protested alleged illegal deduction of its members' pensions.

The pensioners, who carried placards with various inscriptions, took their protest to the Office of the Accountant General in Akure.

Speaking to newsmen on the matter, Mr Sunday Boboye, the Secretary of NUP in Akure South Local Government Area, said it was wrong to make deductions from pensioner's little stipend.

"We are here to protest against illegal deductions and stoppage of our money since December 2013. Up till now, some pensioners are even yet to get December money. Some collected two months while some are being owed March pension.

"For instance, some have N3,000 and above being deducted from their money. It is disheartening that such allowance, which cannot be called salary, is not paid as being expected," Boboye alleged.

According to him, series of complaints had been made to the authorities concerned but all to no avail.

"We have shown our grievances several times but nothing good came out of it. We have told them that we are not satisfied with e-payment but they didn't listen to us. After this protest today, we will meet again on Tuesday next week and take more concrete action against this unlawful act," Boboye said.

But the state’s Accountant-General, Mr Frederick Ajibokun, when contacted on the allegations of the pensioners, said he was not ready to speak on the issue.
