The #Philippines Department of Health (DOH) said on Tuesday in Manila that it would commence comprehensive investigation on a hospital for taping an infant's mouth shut.
It said the baby was on admission for an infectious disease, at Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House in Cebu City.
It said the baby’s parents came visiting and found his lips sealed with adhesive tape.
It said a nurse told the parents that the baby’s mouth was tapped because he has been crying too loudly.
It said the case caused a public outcry after the father made it public on the social media.
The DOH said though the parents of the infant are yet to file a formal complaint, but it was set to conduct an investigation into the hospital including the nurses on duty at the time.
The hospital came up to say, the tape was used to prevent the baby's pacifier from falling out, but the parents felt the use of a pacifier, if true, could have choked the baby.
The DOH argued that pacifiers should not be used on newborns as the objects may be a source of infection.
