The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, has deployed three surveillance helicopters, 40 Armoured Personnel Carriers, APCs, a reinforcement team of police personnel, amphibious vehicles and other high-tech security gadgets for Saturday’s governorship election in Ekiti State.
He also told officers and men of the force deployed in the state not to “do anything stupid” during the election. Expressing the readiness of the force to ensure fool-proof security during the polls, Abubakar warned miscreants to stay off the state, vowing to also deal with politicians who flouted the rules of engagement. The IGP, while deploying the equipment yesterday, said that the zonal and Ekiti State Command would also deploy their resources and personnel for the election.
The helicopters are to be deployed in each of the three senatorial districts and are expected to conduct air patrols and surveillance as well as provide technical support services to the operatives on the ground.
