Nigeria - The National Union of Electricity Employees has urged the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari to disregard the advice from the outgoing Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, concerning reversal of the privatization of the electricity sector of the nation, Daily Independent reports.

"We are worried that the Professor has been ministering lies to this nation coupled with outdated gas policy projection. For over two years of post privatisation, nothing meaningful has been achieved in terms of electric power delivery, yet he would come with such expression of opinion”.
“The endless excuses of vandalism is old fashioned and therefore no longer tenable. It is now obvious that privatization is evil, it only results to private gains and public pains,” he said
“Has it ever occurred to Nigerians to identify the touted investors who should have aided the economy by way of earning Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)? As a union, we believe there is nothing wrong in Government reviewing the reform process in terms of going back to the founding documents and doing some forensic”, he added.
“A cursory look at other countries shows that, most of the largest developing economies have either rejected or reversed privatisation. Countries like China, Brazil, India, Mexico, South Korea, Indonesia, Iran and Argentina. Others like Venezuala, South Africa, Thailand have either halted or reversed privatisation process.”
He explained that Nigeria can as well afford to reverse the process if only it will guarantee growth and sustainability of electric power for the socio-economic development of the Nation.
