President Muhammadu Buhari met leaders of the Peoples Democracy Party, PDP, and the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, at the State House on Friday.
PDP Chairman Sen Ahmed Makarfi led the party's delegation to the Villa.
In his remark, the President said: "Opposition does not mean hostility, enmity or antagonism.
“Democracy needs opposition, one which is vibrant but responsible."
Others in attendance are Muiz Banire, national legal adviser of the APC, Olorunnimbe Mamora, Tony Momoh, Ben Obi, and Ken Nnamani.
It was gathered that the meeting focused on national issues particularly the problem of hate speech and the security situation in the country.
