Politics President Jonathan Condoles with Sultan over Brother’s Death

President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday condoled with the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, over the death of his brother, Alhaji Bello Maiwurno.

Vice-President Namadi Sambo delivered the condolence message on behalf the President. Jonathan said the death of Maiwurno was a great loss to the Sultanate Council of Sokoto, his family, the people of Sokoto State and the country.

Speaking earlier, Abubakar thanked the president for sending a high-powered delegation to Sokoto to commiserate with his family. He called for fervent prayers among Nigerians for peace, stability, progress and economic development of the country.

He stated that the time had come for Nigerians, irrespective of religious differences, to pray for God's intervention in the socio-economic and political activities of the country.

Sambo was accompanied by the Minister of National Planning, Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, Sen. Mamman Magoro, the Emir of Lafia, Alhaji Isa Mustapha, and the Emir of Birnin Gwari, Alhaji Zubairu Jibril.

Special prayers were conducted for the repose of the soul of Maiwurno, who died at the age of 76 years.

He is survived by a wife and 13 children.
