President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria has asked a Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna to reject a suit that seeks to prevent him from contesting the 2015 presidential election.
The suit which was filed by two chieftains of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Richard Mneaga and Shuaibu Lilli on October 7 wants the court to bar the President from the 2015 elections. The suit claims that President Jonathan had completed eight years in office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, calculated from May 29, 2007.
The President, acting through his counsel, Fabian Ajoku (SAN) told the court to dismiss the petition as the plaintiffs lacked the right to bring the matter before the court.
Hearing on the case is expected to commence on February 12.
