Di Stefano regarded as one of the greatest players of all time died on Monday evening at the age of 88.
He was rushed to the hospital over the weekend and has been in an induced coma before he gave up today.
Real president Florentino Perez said he and the club's board would "like to express deepest condolences and all their love and affection to his children, their families and friends."
Known for his abilities to ghost past defences,the Argentina-born player was predatory in attack,scoring over 300 goals for Real Madrid and winning eight Spanish league titles,he also won the Ballon d'or in 1957 and 1959.
In his international career,Di Stefano played for three countries,Argentina,Colombia and the Spanish national team.
There has been an outpouring of tributes for the former player,with many football thronging to the social media,Twitter to pay their respect.
