Students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, Ile-Ife have taken to the social media to demand immediate opening of the institution.

The University was closed down few weeks ago immediately after the resumption of 2015/16 session owing to the tussle between the Non Academic Staff Union (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU) and the governing council of the institution for alleged imposition of the new Vice Chancellor, Prof. Salami.

The students began the social media and online campaign after the Association of Campus Journalists OAU made the call, in a statement signed by its PRO, Abegunde Cephas.

“We have sampled Students opinion and we know Students want to resume.

“Governing Council has not been constituted at the moment and with feelers we are getting, if students don’t speak out, delay may make the close shut for longer.

“With the current pace of events, if Students do not voice out, the break still has long days ahead", the statement reads.

The students are clamouring for re-opening of the university...

They should stop wasting their time. Twitter won't solve the root cause of the problem.
