Yesterday (after the unveiling of Professor Yemi Osibanjo as Buhari's running mate in the forthcoming elections), Reuben Abati took to his blog (reubenabati.com.ng) to post a Wikileaks document about Geheral Muhammadu Buhari.

On his blog, Abati wrote: "Classified Information available to us through Wikileaks in the Public Library of United States Diplomacy reveals what America's Knowledge as by the writings of US Ambassador Howard F. Jeter (from the Obasanjo era), about One time Dictator (Always a Dictator) and APC's Presidential Candidate General Buhari."

Excerpts from the document (as posted on Abati's blog) are made available below:
3. (C) Like President Obasanjo before the 1999 election, General Buhari's political experience is limited to that of military Head of State. Buhari came to power as a result of a 1983 New Year's Eve coup against the democratically elected Shehu Shagari. The eviction of Shagari came as a welcome relief as did Buhari's promise to root out corruption. That relief, however, was short-lived as Nigerians watched despairingly as the Buhari regime's promises to revive the economy and wipe out rampant corruption withered during 20 months of heavy-handed, largely ineffective rule.

4.(C) In May 1984, Buhari ordered the brutal expulsion of 700,000 illegal immigrants from neighboring African states, jailed hundreds of political opponents and muzzled a once aggressive press. His loyalty to the military also came into question as he dismissed 30,000 soldiers as a cost-cutting measure. Buhari also soured Nigeria's relations with Britain, when he was accused of masterminding a clumsy and unsuccessful attempt in July 1984 to kidnap President Shagari's brother-in-law, former Transport Minister Umaru Dikko. Moreover, Buhari undermined traditional rulers throughout Nigeria, slashing their benefits and questioning their authority.

Nigeria is slowly but steadily looking like SOMALIA and all we are doing is PRETENDING all is well. The sooth Sayers in the land like religious leaders from all sects and believe are who we listen to. DECEITFUL RELIGIOSITY is the real deal in Nigeria which is laughable and unfortunate.
We think problems that we started creating many years ago will be fixed by some religious leaders even when our commitments are suspect or non-existent. We have refused to accept the enormity of the problems we face as we continue to wait for devine intervention. We should resolve to roll up our sleeves and get to work and stop this hypocritical religious slants that currently fill the air.
TALK IS CHEAP - let's get down to bringing ourselves out of our present predicament .
We are loosing to a very ostentatious governing class. Corruption continues to be rife in the land. Law and order have gone to the dogs. EVERYBODY JUST TALKS BECAUSE IT TAKES NOTHING FROM THEM. Especially when NOBODY feels SHAME anymore - from religious leaders to political leaders to technocrats to traditional leaders. NOBODY REALLY CARES what comes out of their mouths. EVERYBODY is busy creating a public perception of themselves .
We need to start accepting the ills in the land so we can begin to slowly rebuild.
The earlier the better.

More and more documents would be published, more secrets would be revealed. All we know is that at the moment, there are no political saints.

See how easy it is for Wikileaks to gather info from Nigerian officials? LOL. It only takes a handshake and we're spewing our guts.

@ade sanusi what can an average Nigerian do? Most people already believe and say that the problem is from above (leaders et al) and so the solution should start there.
