Sports Rio Olympics: Argentina Defeat Nigeria’s D’Tigers in Men’s Basketball

Nigeria's D'Tigers lost their opening basketball preliminary round group game to Argentina's national team 94-66 at the Rio 2016 Olympics in Brazil.

The game which was played at the Carioca Arena 1 in Rio saw the William Voigts' side fail to build on their pre-Olympics game win over the Argies last month.

Facundo Campazzo led Argentina with 19 points, while flag bearer Luis Scola had 18 for the 2004 gold medalists. Patricio Garino finished with 15 in front of crowd filled with flag-waving Argentina fans who sang and chanted for much of the night.

The Ike Diogu scored 15 points and 13 rebounds just as Ebi Ere and Andy Ogide scored 14 and 11 points respectively.

They were outclassed in all four quarters as the Argentine team scored 11 three point shots in 23 attempts as against D'Tigers four from 20.

Next up for D'Tigers is a tricky test Lithuania in their second game on the 9th of August before battling Spain on the 11th at the Carioca Arena in Rio.

They face Croatia and Brazil on the 13th and 15th of August respectively .
