Rivers- Operatives from the Rivers State Police Command(anti-kidnapping unit) on Thursday rescued Hon.Chinyere Igwe, Ikechi Chinda, and Allwell Ihunwo- three chieftains of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who were kidnapped last week by unknown gunmen at the Derail Hotel in Eagle Island in the state.
According to Daily Times, the incident had sparked up a war of words and accusations by the PDP in the state, who said the state governor, Rt. Hon Rotimi Amaechi had a hand in the abduction.
According to rumors, Allwell Ihunwo was released thursday morning, while the duo of Ikechi Chinda and Chinyere Igwe were released on Wednesday night.
The Commissioner of Police for Rivers State, Mr. Tunde Johnson Ogunsakin, said the three abducted members of the PDP have all been released at the moment. "However, we are still on trail of the abductors and we shall soon catch up with them," he added.
He offered no more details.
