The Olympic torch, which will be used to light the flame at the winter Olympics, which will be held in Sochi, Russia, was broadcasted for two hours from outer space on NASA TV.

A three-man crew of astronauts took the torch to the International Space Station on Thursday.

The torch, which is a symbol of international unity, has been taken to space twice before. However, this is the first time it has left a space ship.

This feat is part of Russia’s attempt at showing that it is a powerful and modern civilization – especially since it has recently come under fire for its anti-homosexual attitudes and laws viewed as retrogressive by many western countries.
