The Nigerian federal and airport authorities are said to have checked the documents and the genuine 'characters' of the flight and have released the plane to continue its journey to N'Djamena.

The Russian plane (called the Antonov 124) was impounded by Nigerian authorities in Kano, and initial reports say it was filled with ammunition. The Russian embassy has denied this.

With the apprehension of this craft, tension has mounted as the belief that Boko Haram has international help solidifies.

Jacques Champagne de Labriolle, French's ambassador to Nigeria has stated that the commercial charter, was carrying two French Army Gazelle light helicopters.
