A septuagenarian simply identified as Baby Ijemo, has committed suicide inside his room at Olorombo area of Abeokuta,Ogun state.
The lifeless body of the septuagenarian was discovered by his co-tenants on Monday night following the stench emanating from his room-and-parlor apartment. One of the neighbors, who did not want his name disclosed, told newsmen that the deceased had in recent time been hostile to his neighbors.
He said none of the neighbors could establish the reason for the suicide.
"We began to perceive an offensive odour emanating from Baba's room but the room was locked. Out of curiosity, we peeped through the window and discovered the dangling body of Baba with a rope tied round his neck and hung on the ceiling plank.
"We then raised alarm which attracted other people in the neighborhood, and we quickly contacted the family members and the police," he said.
When contacted on phone, the spokesperson of the Ogun Police Command, Mr Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident.
"I confirm that a man identified as Baba Ijemo committed suicide on Monday in Abeokuta. He did not leave any suicide note and we do not suspect any foul play. The man has been buried by his family members. We got the information very late but the commissioner of police has ordered an investigation into the matter," he said
