Malam Sa’idu Aliyu, the State Commandant of Hisbah, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

He explained that consumption of beer was prohibited in all parts of the state.

The commandant added that Hisbah would continue to fight against immoral acts, including consumption of alcohol across the state.

He advised residents to desist from engaging in vices and other immoral acts capable of destroying the society.

NAN recalls that the command recently confiscated 111 cartons of assorted beer in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of the state suspected to be smuggled from the neighbouring Bauchi State.

Governor of jigawa state need to think of better thing to do than waste more energy on fight against alcohol. Now that Nigeria is on recession each state need things that will boost their IGR. Nigeria Breweries Company pay huge tax to Fed and state govt, even they are one of Fed & State govt big payers of taxes. Currently, in Lagos and Rivers state theirs a law on alcoholic consumption, so fighting against alcoholic consumption you are denying your state alot of things basically now that Nigeria is on recess. Finally, your action is inconsequential, i urge you to have a rethink for the sake of your people.

I was speaking generally

Was it expressly stated in the Bible or Quran that alcohol is a sin? If the answer's no (which probably is), then it's not a sin.

However, alcohol consumption regarded as a sin in some quarters.

Men, we give definition to every thing.

It depends on your definition of "expressly". You see, we all already have a preconceived notion about so many issues, either religion, politics etc.
Unlike the Bible the Qur'an has no new testament, so it will be a little complicated looking at it from your point of view. See Proverbs 20:1; 21:17; 23:29-35; 31:4 or leviticos 10:9, Numbers 6:1-3, judges 13:4-7.
The morality behind alcohol consumption should not be a thing of debate because the Qur'an was clear on it in [Qur'an 5:90] which actually declared a ban on addictions to substance of abuse or gambling and fortune tellers: "O you who believe, intoxicants, gambling, altars and arrows of chance are afflictions which are the work of the devil; you shall stay away from him, that you may succeed". Let's be guided please, we already think worst of ourselves, let's not give others a living proof by defending what we know is wrong.

Surely, you don't think a ban on "addiction to substance of abuse" is the same thing as a ban on "alcohol," do you?

There's a clear difference. An "addiction to drinking alcohol" surely is never the same thing as drinking alcohol, no?

Moreover, not every one drinks alcohol to stupor. There's a public religious, somewhat hypocritical, acrimony towards alcohol because of what people do after drinking too much of it. This is why Imams and Pastor indirectly tell their congregants to avoid it.

Furthermore, these laws mostly affect the lower class, and not the elites, irrespective of the time, place or race.

So, Jigawa state's banning of alcohol is sth of a misplaced priority: you have so much energy to combat "alcoholism" yet you've done jack educating kids, providing healthcare or creating better infrastructure for a better future.

Alcohol to me falls into the category of the word "intoxicants". You and I may Polish this all we want, this is Jigawa state and if they claim they are practising shariah law and want nothing to do with alcohol, then anyone with such an investment in that particular state is bound to loose a fortune to that law.
