Olusegun Obasanjo has described President Jonathan as a moving train providentially stopped from collapsing Nigeria.

He also said that African leaders he has spoken to are pleased with GEJ's defeat.

“I have visited six countries since the election, they are as happy about the results as we are in Nigeria. It is good not only for Nigeria, it is good for Africa and I believe it is good for the world,” said Obasanjo.

He described Nigeria as a country that plays “a dangerous game of moving close to the precipice," then added: “I hope we will not fall over one of these days."

I am a fan of Obasanjo. I make this disclosure early so that people will not find me vague trying to measure my bias if indeed I am.

I love OBJ, a man who take decisions and owned up the responsibilities of his actions. I love EFCC under OBJ govt and I love NAFDAC under him too. The critics of EFCC machinery see it formal mercenary that witch hunt the perceived political enemies of OBJ. But this accusation failed the test of the doctrine of mischief rule because they agreed that culprits embezzled funds. .."but just there were others, embezzlers who were not at all arrested because they are OBJ's friends" said the critics. "Govt is a continum" I have argued.

The criticisms of the EFCC under OBJ may have negatively influence the naive mind of Goodluck, and so he to tried to redefined corruption which has paid him back with lost of power. On a more positive side was the NAFDAC. The war of fake drugs and importation of slow killer juice drinks into the country was total. Today, 5Alive, Chivita among others are produced in Nigeria with its impact on employment and increase local contents.

I will never say that OBJ performed optimally. NO! OBJ could have done a lots more given his anticedents, a man who has ruled Nigeria before and then came back the second time. For this reason he should criticise Goodluck less if he cannot at all keep quiet.

OBJ and Goodluck administrations are now for historical dissection except that the later still have 38 days more in the office.
General Buhari has more to learn from the OBJ with whom he share the same pedigree: discipline and experience. Buhari is privileged to have two predecessor on the two sides of divide on corruption.

If Buhari fight corruption there will be critics- extreme left wing. If he doesn't muster enough courage, the people will become sympathetic with Goodluck - "after all he was never a general."
I will rather choose that Buhari must fight corruption.

EFCC is about high profile successes. The masses are already well served by the current criminal system for example a manager at a fast food restaurant has just gone done for 266 years for stealing. Where were the high profile successes? The EFCC under OBJ did not get Ibori, they could have and should have but did not. Under the EFCC's watch the post 1999 governors in all regions of Nigeria became very wealthy and had nothing to show for it. We tend to look at our past with rose tinted glasses and no doubt we will speak of the good old years of President Jonathan soon.

The key to success is not in the 'messiah' mentality, although I was guilty of thinking OBJ was the 'messiah' in 1999. The institutions need to operate properly. EFCC was all about Ribadu rather than the system. No one knows what the mandate was, who Ribadu reported to etc..Now if you ask any questions about the 36 + 1 Governors, you will be asked to prove they were corrupt, just as OBJ asked us to prove IBB was corrupt and Buhari has allegedly said Abacha was not corrupt. Jonathan will say the same about his ministers and we keep going round in circles.

OBJ disappointed as he had the good will to make long lasting changes to the country, he did not. Hence things can be dismantled very quickly. Because he created no institutions, he realized that the country was going to go down the drain when he was about to leave and believing he was the messiah, was looking for a third term.

We wish the country all the best with the new leaders and the sweeping change through Nigeria, let us hope we are also ready for a rainy day :).

I love the depth of your analysis. It is revealing and I can't agree less that Nigeria have not had any true leader, someone who is interested to make a change that will ceate a lasting positive impact on the nation .

Our legal system is laughable. One law but different interpretations for the low and the high.

I jus hope Buhari has taken notes of these shortcomings and prepared to different.

Yes .. we must wish the incoming government all the best and pray they do the right thing. Some would say demand they do the right thing.
