The ringleader of a white supremacist plot to assassinate Nelson Mandela and drive black people out of South Africa has been sentenced to 35 years in jail.

Former university lecturer Mike du Toit was convicted last year of treason for his leadership role in the plot, after a trial lasting nine years.

Twenty other members of his white supremacist militia Boeremag were also jailed for between five and 35 years.

You know what really frightens me about this newspiece? The fact that the ringleader was a university lecturer. Imagine those vacant minds under his spell, enthralled with whatever filth he could pour into their heads. Imagine a whole army of white supremacists marching down the halls of an unnamed university, killing negroes at night, 'randomly' and never getting caught for it, borne out of several university lectures.

Imagine it and be terrified, brethren.

True. But I think u shd give uni students more credit. At uni level, pple already have their own intransigent views abt life. So if they r easily convinced to kill innocent pple, they have always been perverted and a bit psychotic to boot.

Lecturers have a lot of influence on their students. Especially if he is brilliant, smart and awesome.

'Experience: that most brutal of teachers. But you learn, my God do you learn' -C. S. Lewis

C.S. Lewis is brilliantly on-target. @Bolanle Akanji, to put a prick (no pun, by God, no pun intended O_o) in your theory, you do know the people who are convinced to have holy baths with 'prophets' are adults? It is the Mason effect, you see - you remember those poor souls who were considered that Mason was the Christ and they killed themselves (I can't really remember the details), expecting to be resurrected with him (or something).

When someone has been accepted socially as being a leader in a pack, followers will gravitate towards him, and depending on the amount of influence he decides to wield, people can become marionettes at his mercy.

Map this scenario on our racist lecturer and you will understand my fears.

I hope with these few points of mine :) I have been able to convince you, Bolanle? *curtsies*

@Lequte, quite well put. I know one particular lecturer who was so dazzling in class that when he was implicated in paedophilia crimes, his students made excuses for him. I was aghast, you know?

Bolanle, unless you are underaged, I don't think I am likely to do that.

Was there an insinuation in that statement? Find out after the break...

@Lequte @The_HeadCase absolutely right, I have had such experience with my lecturer back in school, whatever he said was right, I always sought his opinion. when you look up to someone or see someone as a pack of brains, u become a YESMAN. You never question anything he says or does

Its very common @Bolanle Akanji not all university students have a mind of their own.

Personally, I think any university student who can be brainwashed into doing something that extremely racist by a university lecturer cannot hide under the "higher influence" excuse.

To do something as vengeful as that, you have to have shared passion, and methinks any student recruit may be found - after digging in their past - to have a history of racist slurs.

Oh, well. If we use the argument of man being a tabula rasa and the heart of the student being a technical blank slate waiting openly for the impressions of a lecturer, I daresay the student need not have a track record before he can be used as a tool in the hands of the lecturer.

Not so tabula rasa. He's already passed thru his pry and secondary school teachers. Those are the most impressionable stages. Catch them young; that's what they call it, I think.
