Sports Minister wants to hire a foreign coach for Nigerian athletics

Following Nigeria’s poor outing at the just concluded World Athletics Championship,the National Sports Commission(NSC) have concluded plans to hire a foreign coach for the Athletics Federation of Nigeria(AFN).
Nigeria only ended up on the medals table by virtue of Blessing Okagbare’s efforts in winning two medals: Silver and Bronze in the Women’s Long Jump and 200m events.
There are reports that the AFN long nurtured the idea of hiring a foreign coach but muted the idea,as they could not afford to pay for his services.
It is understood that the Sports Minister,Bolaji Abdullahi after watching Nigeria’s poor showings in Moscow, concluded that a foreign coach be hired to help Nigerian athletics.
“The minister already has a fund for this. He has made provision for this and we will go ahead with the plan,” AFN President Solomon Ogba,told Vanguard Sports.
Special adviser to the Sports minister,Julius Ogunro confirmed that there are works in the pipeline to hire a foreign adding that his payment wont be an issue.
“We shall not have problem with payment of their wages. The minister has a special fund for that,” he said.
