Business StarTimes Celebrates 5th Year Anniversary In Nigeria As Subscriber Base Rises To 2.6 Million

StarTimes, a leading Digital Television Service Provider in Nigeria recently celebrated its five years of successful operations in Nigeria. Starting from 2010, the digital brand has been able to raise its TV channels from 40 to about 200 and subscribers have grown from zero to 2.6 million within the 5-year period. The celebration was held at Transcorp Hilton hotel in Abuja on July 30th.

Speaking in an interactive session with journalists in Abuja, Mr Pang XInXing, the Chairman of the company noted that the company started as a very small company in Nigeria five years ago, but has now become a very big company. He said the company launched the Direct to Home services so that the whole Nigeria can be covered. More channels are also been provided and the quality of programming is increasing.

The digital media now has more Nigerian local channels and local contents. The company's staff strength is 1000 and subscriber base is now 2.6 million. Mr Xinxing noted that the company has been contributing to the development of the society because it has created indirect job opportunities for about 10,000 people in Nigeria and has paid tax that run into N4 billion in the last five years.
