Tension mounting up in Umuahia the capital city of Abia state ahead of Friday’s judgement by the Supreme Court on the Abia State governorship tussle.

Uche Ogah, a candidate who lost in the primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is accusing Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of allegedly submitting false tax information to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Ikpeazu defeated Ogah in the PDP primaries ahead of the 2015 gubernatorial election in the state but Ogah defeated Ikpeazu in the Federal High Court where the case was first heard.

Recall that Justice Okon Abang had on June 27, 2016 sacked Ikpeazu from office as governor of Abia State, after the court found him guilty of tax offences and asked that Ogah be sworn in.

However, in another judgement on 27 August, 2016, the Court of Appeal described the ruling by Justice Abang as a rape of democracy, and ordered Ikpeazu, who went there to appeal the judgement of the High Court, to retain his office.

Subsequently, Ogah approached the Supreme Court where he prayed that the High Court judgement should be upheld which will be decided on Friday.
