The funeral ceremony of Komla Dumor, a BBC TV presenter who died last month (in London) at 41, has begun in his home town in Ghana. As is the custom of Ghanaians, his funeral will span three days.
The funeral itself begins today, Saturday in the forecourt of the State House in Accra.
Ghanaian president John Mahama, in a speech, said the nation has lost one of its finest ambassadors. "He was very passionate about Africa, he was very passionate about Ghana; I think Komla is one of the gifts we gave to the world," the president said to the BBC.
An MP has also agreed that a street should be named after Komla Dumor. A special cloth has been designed for mourners to wear in his honor, as is the custom of Ghanaian funerals.
