Suspected thugs today attacked a Channels TV Photographer and a Correspondent of the Nation Newspaper during the bail hearing application for Simon Imuekheme, the immediate past Secretary to the Edo State Government.

Imuekheme and three other former officials of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) are standing trial over alleged misapplication of N113 million, belonging the board. The other accused persons are the immediate past Chairman of SUBEB, Joseph Emoabino, Director of Finance and Accounts, Aghator Efe and the board’s Secretary, David Igbinoba.

Trouble started when Mr Osatohanmwen Egbe, the Cameraman of Channels Television, tried to take photographs of Imeukheme, who was brought to the court in a Hilux van, belonging to the Nigeria Prisons Service. While taking the shots, more than five of the thugs pounced on him and attempted to seize the camera from him and a struggle ensued.

In the course of the struggle the thugs rough-handled Egbe and stopped him from taking further shots. The Channels’ camera man was later ordered to leave the court room by the clerks.

Mr Osagie Otabor, Edo State Correspondent of the Nation Newspaper got his phone smashed just as the thugs threatened to beat up any journalists who attempted to take photograph.
