A 32-year-old trader, Raliat Rahman, on Tuesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates' Court in Lagos for allegedly stabbing a neighbour during an argument over toilet keys.

Rahman, who lives near Baba Adisa Village bus stop, Ibeju-Lekki, is charged with one count of causing grievous hurt.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ignatus Okeke, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 3, at about 9.40 p.m.

He said the accused demanded for the keys to the toilet which he jointly shares with his neighbour, Sulaiman Jamiu, and an argument ensued and the accused picked up a bottle and stabbed him in the head, face and hand.

Okeke said that Jamiu was able to break away and alert the police, who later apprehended the accused.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs Salama Matepo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. She adjourned the case until May 5, for hearing.
