The Nigerian Postal Service on Thursday shut down two courier companies in Lagos for operating without licences.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the illegal companies were OJ Transports, located at Jibowu and Happy Family Motors at Ojuelegba.
The development was confirmed to newsmen by the Senior Assistant, Post-Master-General of NIPOST, Dr Simon Emeje. He said the clampdown on the courier services was a national assignment and essential for the sanity of the courier sub-sector.
He added that the companies have not gone through the CRD's licensing process, hence their operation is detrimental to the sector.
Emeje said the cost of licensing for an indigenous courier company was N2 million, while multinational licence was N10 million. He said the courier services sector is very viable, but only 20 percent of the market had been tapped into.
