Violence impedes the democratic process in Egypt, the U.S. State Department said on Thursday on its official Arabic Twitter page.
The U.S. government added, "Violence also impedes the Egyptians' ability to develop and achieve economic recovery."
Urging Egypt to end all political detentions, the U.S. State Department followed up with another tweet saying, "We consistently called for an end to all political detentions and we will continue to do so."
The U.S. has been providing Egypt with an annual aid worth 1.55 billion dollars, 1.3 of which is military aid, for 30 years.
