Uber will launch a cash payment experiment in Lagos on Monday, January 18th, 2016.

Formerly it is only possible to make payment for Uber trips via debit card.

“Paying with cash is really important for people in Nigeria so this is an exciting experiment for us," Ebi Atawodi, General Manager for Uber Lagos said.

"We want everyone to enjoy the hassle-free convenience of ordering a safe, reliable ride at the touch of a button. This cash experiment in Lagos will give us some great insights and help us develop our technology to best meet the needs of the local consumers," he noted.

"Lagos is the third city in Africa, after Nairobi and Cairo, to get the feature enabled, and I expect it to spur massive growth in Lagos, like it did in Nairobi," he said.

When the feature gets rolled out, riders simply need to choose the CASH payment option, take the ride, and pay the driver cash at the end of the trip. Not everyone will see the option immediately though. It will roll out gradually over the next few weeks.
