Uber has lost the right to classify UK drivers as self-employed.
INDEPENDENT UK reports that an employment tribunal in a case brought before it by GMB lawyers today ruled that Uber drivers are entitled to receive the National Minimum Wage and holiday pay because they are workers, not self-employed.
The ride-hailing app had argued that it was a tech firm and that its drivers were independent self-employed contractors who can choose where and when they work. As a result, they were not entitled to rights granted to workers.
The company can appeal the decision and experts say that this is almost a certainty.
