Uganda's president has refused to approve a controversial bill that would see homosexuals jailed for life, saying there were better ways to "rescue" people from their "abnormality".

In a letter to parliament, Yoweri Museveni said gays would go "underground and continue practicing homosexuality or lesbianism for mercenary reasons", according to the independent newspaper, Daily Monitor.

The Western yam-and-knife holders have bared their fangs and the president has rescinded the bill. That aside, his words ring true and show that he 'studied' before he spoke.

Praise the Lord.

No. I think he feels it is just a waste of resources. I know 90% of Nigerians agree with this but if the poll was conducted another way and they were asked if police should be chasing gay men (notice no women) or chasing armed robbers which would they choose. Also if it was explained to them that by passing the law there will be less resources going into fighting crimes like armed robbery etc. What would then be the result of a poll?

This is the conclusion Uganda has come to.
