According from news reports from Reuters and NAN, Russia has denounced UN’s findings on the poison gas attack on Syria, saying it was preconceived and stained by political meddling. Russia made this statement on Wednesday, Sept 18.

Nations of the West have said that President Bashir al-Assad was responsible for the use of chemical weaponry against civilians.

“We are disappointed, to put it mildly, about the approach taken by the UN secretariat and the UN inspectors, who prepared the report selectively and incompletely,’’ deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told the state-run Russian news agency RIA in Damascus.

Ryabkov, after his talks with the Foreign Minister for Syria, Walid al-Moualem, said, “Without receiving a full picture of what is happening here, it is impossible to call the nature of the conclusions reached by the UN experts anything but politicised, preconceived and one-sided.”

Russia remains Assad’s most prominent backer since the conflict began.
