United States President Barrack Obama will be breaking his administration’s tradition when President Muhammadu Buhari arrives in Washington D.C. on a state visit on Monday next week, DAILY TIMES reports.

Buhari will be hosted at the Blair House, the official guest house of the American President, right opposite the White House.

This is in clear departure from the American government’s attitude to visiting Heads of State, particularly Nigerian leaders.

During official visits to Washington D.C. while in office, former President Jonathan and his entourage usually stayed at the Westin Grand Hotel. At other times, he booked Waldorf-Astoria Hotel and the Pierre Hotel.

The decision to host President Buhari in the official Guest House of the United States President will not only cut down the cost of the trip but also allow time for informal discussions by both leaders.

It is also believed to be a demonstration of US President Barrack Obama’s admiration of President Buhari and to support the Nigerian leader’s acclaimed frugal lifestyle and disdain for ostentatious lifestyle.

PMB Style "frugal and disdain for ostentatious spending"
PMB & Oshinbajo 50% salary slash in one of them, it cause the break in tradition of US. It impact both on the trip cost and accord of a higher honour.

spin doctors!! Let us focus on results please. GMB should not make the same mistake as other Nigerian leaders and let all the hero worshiping and courting by foreign countries get to him. The task ahead is enormous and the US can only help so much. They are helping in IRAQ, Afghanistan, Syria etc. The European Union are helping in Greece and Ukraine.

A snapshot of what he will get from the US
  • Austerity - the poor must pay more and help the rich
  • Devaluation - your currency is too high against the dollar
  • Terrorism - We cannot help you yet until your human rights record improves but we support your efforts
  • Concession - you need to do more to help US businesses compete in Nigeria especially against the Chinese
  • PIB - our men at Exxon Mobil are not happy, what can you do?
So what is our vision for our country? No doubt we need the help of the international community but let us not ignore history. OBJ flew round the world, paid back debts and then what?
