Manchester United and England captain, Wayne Rooney has announced that he will retire from international football after the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
“Realistically, I know myself that Russia will be my last opportunity to do anything with England,” Rooney told a press conference at St George’s Park in Burton, central England on Tuesday.
“My mind is made up. Russia will be my last tournament," he added.
Rooney made his senior international debut in February 2003 aged 17, becoming the youngest player to represent England at the time. He has appeared for England 115 times, scoring 53 goals in the process.
