The Switzerland government has said it has returned the sum of $700m linked to Nigeria’s former military Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
Dr. Hans-Rudolf Hodel, Ambassador of Switzerland, said this at a press briefing in Abuja, and added that the Swiss Government will be available to reopen the case if the Nigerian government had further evidence of more money being held by any Swiss Bank.
The ambassador reiterated that Switzerland had no interest in holding on to illicit funds, and that they had returned more than $1.7bn in 15 years to their countries of origin.
