Nigeria's security adviser, Sambo Dasuki has turned down the United Nations and African Union-backed forces to fight Boko Haram, saying Nigeria and its partners could handle the threat.

“It’s something that we can do. It’s absolutely something we can do,” he said in a BBC interview. “I think as it is we are in good shape to address the issue with those partners, Niger, Chad and Cameroon.”

This week, reps from Nigeria, Niger, Chad and Cameroon met to discuss plans for a regional anti-terrorism counterforce.

The previously existing force, we gather, were vanquished long before the January 3 attack on its headquarters near Baga.
