Leukemia is the most common type of childhood cancer that we treat at Yale Medicine. Childhood (or pediatric) leukemia is a caner of the bone marrow, which is the factory of all the blood cells in the body, explains Gary Kupfer, MD, chief of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Yale Medicine and a professor of pediatrics (hematology/oncology) and of pathology at Yale School of Medicine.
