WASHINGTON - An unarmed man on Friday jumped the White House's north fence and made it all the way inside the North Portico building's doors before being apprehended, said Secret Service spokesperson Brian Leary.
While it is still unclear how the intruder was able to scale the White House's fence, cross the lawn and make it all the way to the north building, the incident will likely spark a re-review of security measures at one of the world's most protected compounds.
Video footage of the incident showed the suspect - later identified as 42-year-old Omar J. Gonzalez from Copperas Cove, Texas - jumped the fence, ignoring commands from authorities to stop and sprinted towards the north building overlooking Pennsylvania Avenue.
