The #WhiteHouse was on a brief lockdown following the breach of security by an unauthorized vehicle entering a restricted area close to the US president’s residence, officials have said.
According to BBC reports, a vehicle trailed behind the #Obama daughters’ motorcade, during which time barriers were lowered on Pennsylvania Avenue.
The driver has been arrested and is being charged with unlawful entry. Police also checked the car for explosives.
The US Secret Service, speaking with the #BBC, says the driver was an employee of the US Department of Treasury, although he didn’t necessarily work at that location.
The 55 year old driver is Matthew Evan Goldstein.
It hasn’t been confirmed whether the entry was the result of a wrong turn or if malicious intent was the motive.
The lockdown which started after 4:40pm local time lasted about thirty minutes.
