The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Thursday postponed the upcoming governorship elections in Edo state.
INEC had earlier on Thursday announced that it was going ahead with the exercise, despite pressure from security agencies to postpone it.
According to Premium Times, INEC reversed the decision after police and the SSS said they could not guarantee security during the polls.
One source suggested INEC was pressured to change its decision.
“The SSS and the police clearly said they can’t guarantee the security of INEC’s personnel and materials,” the source said.
INEC is expected to issue a formal statement on the matter soon.
