Punch reports that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, on Friday described as illegal the recent approval by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum for the Federal Government to withdraw $1bn from the Excess Crude Account to fight insurgency.
Wike stated this in an interview with State House correspondents shortly after meeting President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
He said although he was in support of the fight against insurgency, the approval remained illegal.
The governor said, “For me, it (the approval) is illegal. However, we are talking about fighting insurgency and no right thinking individual will say that he will not support the government to fight insurgency.
“But on the other hand, I believe that we have been talking about the environmental issues in the Niger Delta, particularly in Ogoni land
