An official of the Nigerian Football Federation(NFF) has revealed that the 23-man squad was announced late due the request of Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi to personally speak with the excluded players before the list was released to the media.

Amongst those who did not make Keshi's list are Sunday Mba, who Nigeria's lone goal that won the third AFCON title last year, Obinna Nsofor, who also scored the team's second goal against Ethiopia and sealed Nigeria's qualification for the fifth World Cup tournament.

Others who were dropped: Rangers' Ejike Uzoenyi, Nnamdi Oduamadi, Daniel Akpeyi as well as Joel Obi.

The former Mali and Togo boss told the NFF that he needed to address them first so as not to serve as a rude shock to them when they learn about it from the media.

"It will not be right for us to release the list, and the players hear it from anybody other than the coach," the official was quoted as saying on Kickoffnigeria.com
