Several Yoruba leaders have demanded that the federal government implement the recommendations of the 2014 national confab.

They made the call on Thursday at a retreat organised by Yoruba Leadership and Peace Initiative in Ibadan.

They said the Federal Government and the National Assembly must ensure that the process of reviewing the constitution takes place before the 2019 general elections.

According to the former governor of Ogun state, Chief Gbenga Daniel, the report of the 2014 confab is “a good document".

Chief Bode George, former National Chairman, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warned that the mistakes of the past should not be allowed to be repeated to truncate the unity of the Yoruba race.

The convener of the retreat, Chief Deji Osinbogun, said Nigerians must come together to agree on the modalities for restructuring the polity.

Notable Yoruba leaders, who attended the retreat include, Sen. Bode Olajumoke, Chief Niyi Akintola (SAN), Mr Olawale Oshin, chairman, Afenifere Renewal Group and Prof Jide Owoeye Proprietor, Lead City University, Ibadan.

Also in attendance were: Dr Olapade Agoro, Archbishop of Methodist Church Nigeria, Ayo Ladigbolu; National Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Chief Gani Adams and the Secretary General, Yoruba Council of Elders Chief Kunle Olajide.
