The Zambian government on Wednesday in Lusaka said that it paid 151.5 million dollars to service its external debt from January to November 2013.

Mr Fredson Yamba, Secretary to the Treasury said the country’s current external debt stood at 3.136 billion dollars.

He said that government had paid additional 1.7 million dollars toward the servicing of domestic debt, mostly for obligations related to government securities.

Yamba said that the treasury would continue to observe domestic and international economic affairs with keen interest.

He added that on the domestic front, government was particularly concerned with prevalent incidences of delays, avoidance and non-compliance to tax obligations.
