Sequel to suggestions by the shareholders of Zenith Bank Plc at its annual general meeting held in Lagos, the board of the bank is considering paying interim dividends to its shareholders soon.

The possibility of distributing the dividends was one of the issues discussed at a recent meeting of the board to consider the half year financial performance of the bank. This is the first time ever the bank will be paying interim dividends.

According to market source privy to the bank, the presentation of the half year result to the Nigerian Stock Exchange is being delayed as a result of the board's decision to audit the report. The source also hinted that the results are now awaiting the approval of Central Bank of Nigeria before presenting it to the NSE.

Zenith Bank is offering interim dividends at a time many other quoted companies are experiencing significant drop in their net profit; some as high as 70 per cent drop.
