Amidst allegations, EFCC denies releasing list of ex-governors under corruption probe, labeling it false. Nigerians demand clarity on source, challenging agency's credibility. Controversy unfolds as anti-graft agency faces scrutiny over disputed claims.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) found itself embroiled in controversy after vehemently refuting claims that it had released a list of former governors under investigation for alleged corruption.

According to Dele Oyewale, the head of media and publicity at the EFCC, the report circulating under the title "EFCC Releases Full List of 58 Ex-Governors that Embezzled N2.187 Trillion" was deemed "false and mischievous." Oyewale emphasized that the commission neither issued such a list nor engaged in discussions regarding investigations into ex-governors with any media outlet.

"The public is enjoined to ignore the report as it is false and misleading," stated Oyewale, denouncing the purported list as a "disingenuous fabrication" with ulterior motives known only to its authors.

The EFCC's response comes in the wake of growing speculation fueled by the circulating report, which purportedly detailed extensive embezzlement by former state executives. However, the agency's swift denial has cast doubt on the credibility of the alleged list, prompting calls for greater transparency and accountability in the fight against corruption.

In light of the incident, the EFCC issued a stern warning to the media, urging journalists to verify information about ongoing investigations with the commission to prevent the dissemination of false and inaccurate reports that could mislead the public.
