In a recent report by data tech company Statsense Consult Limited, former governors of Delta, Rivers, and Cross River states - Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Nyesom Wike, and Senator Ben Ayade respectively - have been identified as the top three leaders who left behind substantial domestic debt burdens for their successors.

Okowa, who also served as the running mate of the PDP candidate in the 2023 presidential election, left a debt of N465.4 billion for his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori.

Similarly, Wike, currently serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, bequeathed a debt of N225.51 billion to his successor, Siminalayi Fubara. Ayade, the former governor of Cross River State, left a debt of N204.05 billion for his successor, Bassey Otu.

The report also highlights the domestic debt inherited by other former governors across different states, shedding light on the financial challenges faced by current administrations nationwide.
