Amidst the public distress triggered by the removal of fuel subsidies, Governor Uba Sani has appealed to Nigerians to exercise patience and understanding toward President Bola Tinubu's administration. Speaking on Channels Television's Politics Today, Governor Sani stressed that President Tinubu and state governors were implementing measures to mitigate the impact of the subsidy removal.
Acknowledging the historical issues associated with fuel subsidies, Sani cited rampant corruption that hindered Nigeria's progress and the need to combat such corruption. He urged labor unions, including the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), to give President Tinubu and his administration time to execute their plans effectively, cautioning against making promises that couldn't be fulfilled.
Governor Sani emphasized that the labor unions were actively involved in the government's actions and understood the nation's challenges. He praised President Tinubu's inclusive approach and underscored the importance of considering the most marginalized segments of society, including market women, farmers, and people with disabilities, in decision-making regarding labor agreements.
The National Economic Council (NEC) also called upon the NLC and TUC to postpone their planned industrial action, further highlighting the ongoing dialogue between the government and labor unions in addressing the fuel subsidy issue.
